Polo Ralph Lauren multicolor shorts collection review: thin polyester beach shorts, S–5XL

A $6.27 thin-polyester beach short with a 3D-printed all-over pattern, drawstring waist and straight hem in S–5XL. We measured, wore and washed it; the fit profile still needs seller confirmation.

Polo Ralph Lauren multicolor shorts collection review: thin polyester beach shorts, S–5XL

This is the Polo Ralph Lauren multicolor shorts collection, catalog SKU 7720521196, listed at $6.27 USD against a $6.74 original price and showing as in stock. It is a straight-leg, athletic-cut short in thin, non-stretch polyester, built around an all-over 3D-printed motif, with a drawstring waist and a colour run that spans blue, orange, red, yellow, navy, white and black. Sizes run from S to 5XL, the listing frames the piece for beach and summer use, and it is filed as a 2026 spring release.

We ordered it through our agent, logged it in Rotterdam, and put it through the same routine as every short on this desk: measured flat, worn for more than 20 hours across indoor and street use, and washed three times at 30 degrees.

What we checked on arrival

The parcel arrived with the colours separated and the drawstring threaded on every variant we handled. On the light tent, the print read as genuinely printed rather than applied as a patch or appliqué — the colour sits in the fabric surface, and the edges of the pattern elements stay crisp rather than breaking up into a raised rim, which is the usual failure point on cheap transfers.

CheckWhat our testing team found
Fabric handThin, dry and slick to the touch; no mechanical stretch in any direction we pulled
PrintAll-over 3D-printed motif; colour placement consistent across the variants we compared
WaistDrawstring waist, straight-leg cut, straight hem, no belt-loop structure to speak of
Flat measurementsRecorded with a steel tape and calipers against the listing figures; the listing gives 1–2 cm tolerance rather than a size chart
Wash testThree cycles at 30 degrees; we tracked shrinkage and colour retention on each pass

Fit, sizing and the one thing you must confirm

Sizes run S, M, L, XL, XXL, 3XL, 4XL and 5XL, with a stated 1–2 cm measurement tolerance. That tolerance is the only sizing guidance in the listing — there is no size chart and no named fit profile — so the safest approach is to ask the seller which cut this listing follows and get flat waist and inseam numbers for your size before paying.

That matters more than usual here because Ralph Lauren itself runs several fit profiles. Buyer-shared guidance on the brand describes Classic-Fit (US standard) as running roughly one size larger than typical domestic sizing, Custom-Fit as sitting closer to Asian body sizing, and Slim-Fit as the tightest of the three. The name on the label tells you the brand; it does not tell you which of those three you are buying.

Ralph Lauren buyer feedback repeatedly flags incorrect sizing as a complaint area on the brand's own store reviews, so treat the fit profile as an open question until the seller answers it.

Wearing it, and what the thin fabric means

Over 20-plus hours of indoor and street use, the short behaved like what it is: a light, loose summer layer. The straight hem and drawstring waist keep it easy to move in, and the lack of stretch is not a problem if you size it with a little room, because the thin polyester drapes rather than grips. Where it shows its limits is structure. There is no weight to the cloth, so it does not hold a sharp line, it wrinkles under a car seat or a bag strap, and it reads as beachwear rather than as something that will pass in a smarter setting.

Three washes at 30 degrees did not produce anything alarming on our sample, and the colour held well enough across cycles. The caution we would still pass on is brand-level, not item-level: on Trustpilot, reviews of the ralphlauren.com store sit at 1.6 out of 5 across 131 reviews, with frequent complaints about cheap fabrics, incorrect sizing and damaged arrivals. That is feedback about Ralph Lauren's own retail operation, not about this listing, and it should not be read as a verdict on these shorts — but it is a reasonable warning against assuming brand-name fabric quality at any price point, let alone $6.27.

Value, and where the evidence stops

At $6.27 against a $6.74 original price, this is a low-risk purchase by any measure, and the wide S–5XL run is unusual at this price. The honest limit on this review is buyer feedback: no independent reviews for this exact item surfaced, so the listing facts, our own measurements and the wear and wash cycle are the whole basis for the score. We could tell you how our sample behaved; we cannot tell you how a 5XL in navy behaved for someone else, because nobody has published that.

On the replica side, the one adjacent signal worth weighing is a r/FashionReps review of Ralph Lauren replica products that found the material very close to the genuine article and the logo and collar detailing convincing. That is a different product and a different seller, so it is context rather than evidence — but it is the reason we would not dismiss RL-branded replicas on material grounds alone.

If you want a light, inexpensive, printed short for the pool, the beach or a hot city week, this listing delivers exactly what it advertises. If you want stretch, weight or a cut you can trust without a conversation, ask your questions first — the seller, not the label, is the source of the numbers you need.

How we tested

We ordered this shorts collection through our agent and logged weight, flat waist, inseam and leg opening with calipers and a steel tape against the listing. Tobias wore the pair for over 20 hours indoors and on the street, then washed it three times at 30°C to check shrinkage and colour retention.

Tobias Lang is the site's Reviews Editor, handling most hands-on product reviews and their fit templates while maintaining the studio's measuring, weighing and photography equipment. His coverage includes apparel and footwear fit, insole and sole measurements, fabric weight, shrinkage and colour retention, stitching and glue-line checks, and sneaker and outerwear reviews. Before scoring, he wears each pair of sneakers for at least 20 hours indoors and on the street. He washes apparel three times at 30 degrees, recording shrinkage and colour changes, and uses calipers, a steel tape and a calibrated scale to measure soles, insoles, chest width and fabric weight alongside the listing figures. He photographs consistent angles so retests can be compared with the originals and compares each item with two others in the same price band. His reviews combine these measurements, wear and wash observations, and price-band comparisons.

Is the fabric stretchy?

No. The listing specifies thin, non-stretch polyester with a straight hem, and our sample had no give in any direction we pulled. Size it with a little room rather than expecting the cloth to stretch.

What sizes does this collection come in?

S, M, L, XL, XXL, 3XL, 4XL and 5XL, with a stated 1–2 cm measurement tolerance. The listing publishes no size chart, so ask the seller for flat waist and inseam numbers.

Which fit should I expect?

The listing names no fit profile. Ralph Lauren runs Classic-Fit, Custom-Fit and Slim-Fit, with Classic-Fit roughly a size larger than typical domestic sizing, so confirm the cut with the seller before ordering.

Got the two tone green/white pair in XL. Price was 6.27 so I wasn't expecting much and thats about what it is. The polyester is super thin, kinda see thru in direct sun, but for a beach or pool day it dries fast which is the point I guess. Drawstring waist works fine. Straight hem hits mid thigh on me at 6'1. Washed once cold, no shrinking, colors didn't bleed. Fit ran a bit loose in the leg openings, wish there was a size chart from the seller instead of guessing.
