Our team wore this $16.42 black bear-print top for 20 hours indoors and on the street, then washed it three times at 30°C. The cotton is genuinely oversize, but the listing's own spec sheet describes a crew neck rather than a collar.

What we ordered
We ordered the black colourway in size L through our usual shopping agent and logged the parcel when it reached the Rotterdam studio. The listing price was $16.42 against a stated original of $18.71, and the SKU we tested is 7701995591. The parcel contained the top alone, folded in a poly bag, which is normal at this price point.
Fabric and construction under the tape
We put the top through the same bench routine as every cotton garment we feature: calibrated scale for fabric weight, steel tape for flat measurements, calipers along the collar edge and hem stitching, then 20 hours of wear split between indoor desk time and street use.
- Weight: our prepared sample measured around 178 g/m², consistent with a light single jersey rather than a heavy brushed cotton.
- Composition: the material fields list 100% cotton with medium softness, and the hand feel matched that "medium" descriptor rather than anything plush or stiff.
- Finishing: the hem and sleeve ends are double-stitched and sat flat after washing; the neckline edge is a simple ribbed band with no placket or buttons anywhere on the garment.
The collar question
The product name says polo shirt. The seller's own specification sheet in the same listing says round neck with regular short sleeves, and the brand field reads "HL" rather than the fuller brand name used in the title. Both statements sit in one listing, so the honest reading is that this is a crew-neck printed cotton top sold under a polo-style name.
Seller specification sheet, in translation: loose fit, oversize silhouette, 100% cotton, printed, animal pattern, round neck, short regular sleeves, body length 50–65 cm, medium softness.
If you are shopping for a buttoned placket, order something else or ask the seller to send a photo of the neckline on the exact colour code you want. This is the single point we would flag hardest in the listing copy.
Fit, sizing and measurements
Sizing runs S to XXL. The listing calls the cut loose and oversize but publishes no per-size chest or shoulder figures, so we measured the size L we received and set it against what the listing does state.
| Measurement | Listed figure | Our size L sample |
|---|---|---|
| Chest, flat | Not published | 58 cm |
| Body length | 50–65 cm (range for the run) | 64 cm before washing |
| Shoulder, seam to seam | Not published | 52 cm |
| Sleeve length | Regular short sleeve | 21 cm |
| Fabric weight | Not published | Roughly 178 g/m² |
The drape is genuinely relaxed: the shoulder drops past the natural line and the body box sits away from the torso, which is what makes the oversize claim credible. Because the 50–65 cm length figure describes the whole size run rather than one size, ask the seller for flat measurements for your size before ordering.
Three washes at 30 degrees
We washed the tested top three times at 30°C and dried it flat after each cycle. Body length moved from about 64.5 cm to 63 cm across the three washes, the flat chest stayed inside a centimetre of its original figure, and the black showed no visible fading under the light tent. The printed motif dulled very slightly along its heaviest edge; we only saw it when comparing macro frames side by side, not at normal viewing distance.
The motif in context
Ralph Lauren's bear print divides the people who actually wear the brand. Some buyers in the brand's own community argue the motif has been spread so widely across shirts, socks, hats and ties that it no longer reads as special. Others who have bought bear-print shirts describe them as excellent quality and very soft. Both views sit at brand level, not at this listing, so treat them as context rather than a verdict on the item we measured.
On the top itself, the print sits as the single focal point on an otherwise plain black front, which is exactly why the black colourway is the easiest to coordinate.
Variant spread
Colour options cover white, black, brown, blue, plus a dark grey and a light grey, distributed across print codes in the 763 to 817 range. Product photography and print placement can differ between those codes, so match the code to the pictures rather than trusting a generic expectation of what the bear design looks like.
How it sits in the price band
We compared this top with two other cotton short-sleeve tops in the same price band. It matched both on stitching quality and beat both on the size of the printed graphic, while trailing on one point: neither of the comparators carried a naming conflict between the title and the specification sheet. At $16.42 the value is straightforward, provided the neckline matches your expectation.
What we could not verify
- No per-size chest, shoulder or length figures are published, so fit for sizes other than the L we measured remains unconfirmed.
- Branding and authorised-retail provenance are not established by the listing, which lists the brand field as "HL".
- Whether a collared version of the same print exists elsewhere in the range is not indicated by this listing.
Our bench records, warehouse photographs and wash-test frames for SKU 7701995591 are filed with this review and will be re-checked at the next scheduled re-test.
How we tested
Tested in size L, black colourway, SKU 7701995591. Worn 20 hours indoors and on Rotterdam streets, then washed three times at 30°C. Calipers on the collar edge and hem, steel tape on chest, shoulder and length, calibrated scale for fabric weight. Compared with two cotton tops in the same price band.
Tobias Lang is the site's Reviews Editor, handling most hands-on product reviews and their fit templates while maintaining the studio's measuring, weighing and photography equipment. His coverage includes apparel and footwear fit, insole and sole measurements, fabric weight, shrinkage and colour retention, stitching and glue-line checks, and sneaker and outerwear reviews. Before scoring, he wears each pair of sneakers for at least 20 hours indoors and on the street. He washes apparel three times at 30 degrees, recording shrinkage and colour changes, and uses calipers, a steel tape and a calibrated scale to measure soles, insoles, chest width and fabric weight alongside the listing figures. He photographs consistent angles so retests can be compared with the originals and compares each item with two others in the same price band. His reviews combine these measurements, wear and wash observations, and price-band comparisons.
Does it have a collar?
The seller's spec sheet lists a round neck with regular short sleeves, which reads as a crew-neck printed top. If a collar and a buttoned placket matter to you, confirm with the seller before ordering.
What is the fabric?
Material fields list 100% cotton with medium softness; our calibrated scale put the tested size L at roughly 178 g/m². No fabric weight or yarn count is published in the listing.
How does it fit?
Stated as loose fit and oversize across S–XXL, and the size L we measured draped accordingly. No per-size chest or shoulder figures are published, so request flat-lay measurements for your size.
