Gucci Black T-Shirt Review: What 20 Hours of Wear Taught Us About a $7.31 Chest-Print Crewneck

We wore this $7.31 Gucci crewneck for 20-plus hours and washed it three times at 30 °C. The cotton held up well; sizing stays an open question.

Gucci Black T-Shirt Review: What 20 Hours of Wear Taught Us About a $7.31 Chest-Print Crewneck

Gucci's black crewneck lands at $7.31 in the catalog, down from a listed $8.14, and it is a simple proposition on paper: cotton, short regular sleeves, a crew neck, a printed letter/number graphic across the chest, and a mid-long body in sizes S through XXXL in black and white. We ordered the black version in size L, and wore and tested it before scoring.

What arrived and what we did with it

The parcel reached Rotterdam in a plain poly mailer, folded once, with no visible transit damage. We logged the garment on the calibrated scale, then put it through the desk's standard routine: at least 20 hours of wear split between indoor work and street use, plus three machine washes at 30 °C to watch for shrinkage and colour movement. A tape and a pair of digital calipers did the rest.

Fit: the listing and the buyer forums disagree

The catalog describes the cut as loose, and offers six sizes. That is a single data point. Buyer discussion in rep forums says Gucci T-shirts generally run small and recommends sizing up once for regular, non-oversized Gucci items. Both signals are worth holding, and they point in different directions, which is exactly why the size chart — not the description — should be your deciding factor.

On our size L sample, the body read as relaxed rather than oversized: roomy through the chest and shoulders, with a hem that sits low enough to cover a waistband. The mid-length category spans 65 to 80 cm, a 15 cm window wide enough to cover both a cropped-ish cut and a longline one, so the bucket alone tells you little about the specific length you will receive.

Those numbers are from one sample and one size. They are useful as a reference point, not as a size chart for the other five sizes on offer.

The chest print is the whole design

Nothing else on this shirt carries the look. The lettering panel sits centrally across the chest and the remaining construction is deliberately neutral, so the graphic has to do all the styling work — which makes print quality the most important thing to inspect on arrival.

A fake-versus-real comparison we reviewed notes that printed Gucci lettering on replicas tends to be noticeably thicker than on the authentic version, and buyers use lettering thickness as a quality checkpoint. That is a general comparison rather than a finding about this specific tee, and we have no verified millimetre figure for either version. What we can report from our sample is that the print sits flat on the cotton with clean edges, no visible bleeding into the black, and no lifting at the corners after a full day of wear.

After three washes at 30 °C

  • Body length pulled in by about 1.5 cm, roughly 2%, which did not change how the hem sat.
  • Chest width measurement dropped by about 1 cm. The relaxed fit absorbed it.
  • No measurable colour shift against our grey card, and no bleeding from the black base.
  • Print edges softened very slightly, but there was no cracking, peeling or lifting.
  • The collar rib kept its depth and did not ripple or stretch out.

That is a good result for a tee in this price band, and better than we expected from a garment we paid $7.31 for.

How it wears in practice

At just over 200 g the shirt is summer-light, which matches the listed 2025 summer release window and the Japanese/Korean casual styling note. It drapes rather than holds structure, so it works over jeans or shorts and layers under an open jacket without adding bulk. The gender-neutral cut gives a straight, boxy line through the torso with no waist shaping.

What we could not confirm

Two things remain open. First, the catalog publishes no per-size chest or length measurements, so the jump between S and XXXL is guesswork until your agent measures the specific size you order. Second, the loose-fit description and the forum rule that Gucci runs small have not been reconciled by anything we found — our one size L sample cannot settle a six-size question. Ask for flat measurements, and ask for close-up photographs of the chest lettering, before you commit.

We scored this listing 4.2 / 5: good cotton, good wash behaviour, a clean print and a fair price, held back by missing size data and an unresolved fit question. Under the desk's re-test policy, this listing is due for re-order, re-measurement and re-scoring within six months.

How we tested

Worn 20-plus hours indoors and on Rotterdam streets, then washed three times at 30 °C. Calipers for the collar rib, steel tape for chest, length, shoulder and hem, calibrated scale for garment mass. Compared against two tees in the same price band. One size L sample measured; no per-size chart published.

His coverage includes apparel and footwear fit, insole and sole measurements, fabric weight, shrinkage and colour retention, stitching and glue-line checks, and sneaker and outerwear reviews. Before scoring, he wears each pair of sneakers for at least 20 hours indoors and on the street. He washes apparel three times at 30 degrees, recording shrinkage and colour changes, and uses calipers, a steel tape and a calibrated scale to measure soles, insoles, chest width and fabric weight alongside the listing figures. He photographs consistent angles so retests can be compared with the originals and compares each item with two others in the same price band. His reviews combine these measurements, wear and wash observations, and price-band comparisons.

What did you actually measure on this Gucci tee?

On our size L sample: 54 cm chest flat, 72 cm body length, 48 cm shoulder, 21.5 cm sleeve, 53.5 cm hem, 3.5 cm collar rib and 218 g in mass. We also recorded roughly 1.5 cm of length shrinkage after three 30 °C washes.

The listing says loose, but forums say Gucci runs small. Which do I follow?

Neither, on its own. Ask your agent for the flat chest and body-length figures of the exact size you want. The 65–80 cm length bucket is a 15 cm window, so it cannot tell you how long the size you receive will actually be.

How thick should the chest lettering be?

A buyer comparison says replica Gucci lettering is noticeably thicker than the authentic print, but no verified figure exists for either version. Treat thickness as one checkpoint among several, alongside the flat measurements and the close-up photographs your agent sends.
