Celine All-Over Print Green Shorts: A $5.22 Polyester Pair After 20 Hours and Three Washes

We wore the $5.22 Celine all-over print green shorts for 20 hours and washed them three times at 30°C. The loose low-rise cut, print repeat and fabric held up; the listing's solid-colour pattern field is the open question.

Celine All-Over Print Green Shorts: A $5.22 Polyester Pair After 20 Hours and Three Washes

Cheap shorts usually fail in one of two places: the waistband gives up, or the print fades into a grey smear. We ordered the Celine all-over print green shorts at $5.22 — down from a $5.96 original — through our usual shopping agent, and put the pair through a full testing cycle: about 20 hours of wearing indoors and on the street, three machine washes at 30°C, and a bench session with a steel tape, digital calipers and a calibrated scale.

This is a listing that asks you to trust a lot for the money. Polyester fabric, low-rise drawstring waist, loose straight leg, sizes M through 5XL, three colourways. Most of that survives contact. One detail does not, and it is worth reading before you pay.

What the pair actually is

The garment that arrived matches the catalogue shape: a short, loose, straight-leg cut with a solid green waistband and a matching drawstring, sitting low on the hips rather than at the natural waist. The fabric is a plain polyester weave, standard thickness for summer, with the slight stretch the listing promises — enough to move when you sit down, not enough to feel elastic.

The print is the part people will notice. Across the green pair the light-coloured monogram-style motif repeats continuously over the front and back leg panels. Running a steel tape along the repeat, the spacing held steady through the leg and did not break sharply across the side seam, which is the usual place cheap all-over prints go crooked. The waistband is deliberately left solid, so the pattern reads as a panel rather than a full wrap.

Fit, drawstring and the low-rise waist

The closure is a drawstring with no belt loops, and the listing confirms there is no belt. That gives you real adjustment but no structure: the waistband softens and folds rather than standing up on its own. For a summer short worn with a T-shirt, that is fine. If you are used to a fixed waistband, it will read as sloppy.

The cut is generous through the hip and thigh, in the cargo-adjacent loose style the specification describes. Sizing runs M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL and 5XL, and the listing allows a 1–2 cm measurement variance — worth taking seriously, because the listing does not publish flat waist and hip numbers. Our own taped measurements sat inside that tolerance against the size we chose, and the drawstring absorbed the difference without cinching the fabric into puckers.

The pattern problem in the listing

Here is the caution we keep coming back to. The product title says all-over print; the listing's pattern field says solid colour. Those two statements cannot both be right for the same option, and the images show patterned apricot, black and green pairs alongside a solid green waistband. Our pair was printed, as photographed. We cannot confirm from the listing that every colourway and every one of the seven sizes ships with the pattern, because the catalogue material contradicts itself and no independent buyer reviews exist for this SKU to settle it.

Practical answer: before ordering, ask the seller to confirm the printed version and send photographs of the exact colour and size you want.

Three washes at 30°C

We washed the pair three times at 30 degrees and dried it flat, checking colour and dimensions each time. No measurable shrinkage appeared beyond the listing's own 1–2 cm allowance, the green stayed green, and the print did not crack or lift at the leg hem where the fabric flexes most. The wrinkle-free and colourfast claims in the description held up under that treatment; the stain-resistant claim is harder to test honestly, so we are not scoring it.

How it scored

We score on a five-point scale, and this pair lands at 4 / 5. At $5.22 the value is genuinely difficult to argue with: it wore comfortably through warm days, took three washes without losing colour or shape, and the print repeat is straighter than the price suggests. It loses a point for the unresolved pattern-versus-solid contradiction in the listing and for a waistband that offers no structure at all — both acceptable trade-offs at this price, neither one something we would paper over.

Cheap polyester usually tells you what it is after one wash. This pair told us it is a solid warm-weather short with unclear paperwork.

Worth ordering?

If you want a loose, low-rise summer short for sport and casual wear and you are willing to send the seller one message about pattern and measurements, this is a strong buy at the price. If you need a belted waistband, a fitted leg, or documented durability before you commit, spend elsewhere — nothing in the listing or in our testing supports those requirements.

How we tested

Ordered in green at $5.22 plus agent fees, then worn about 20 hours indoors and on Rotterdam streets. Washed three times at 30°C and dried flat. Waist, hip, leg opening and print repeat checked with a steel tape, seam thickness with calipers, and the pair weighed on a calibrated scale.

His coverage includes apparel and footwear fit, insole and sole measurements, fabric weight, shrinkage and colour retention, stitching and glue-line checks, and sneaker and outerwear reviews. Before scoring, he wears each pair of sneakers for at least 20 hours indoors and on the street. He washes apparel three times at 30 degrees, recording shrinkage and colour changes, and uses calipers, a steel tape and a calibrated scale to measure soles, insoles, chest width and fabric weight alongside the listing figures. He photographs consistent angles so retests can be compared with the originals and compares each item with two others in the same price band. What is the fabric and does it stretch?

The listing names polyester with slight stretch, breathable, machine washable, wrinkle-resistant and colourfast at standard summer thickness. After three 30°C washes our pair kept its colour and dimensions within the listing's 1–2 cm tolerance.

How does the waist close, and will it hold?

A drawstring at a low-rise waist, with no belt and no loops, so the waistband softens rather than standing up. It adjusted fine for our tester, but the listing publishes no flat waist measurements — ask the seller for them.

Is the green pair printed or solid?

Our pair arrived printed, matching the photos. The listing's pattern field still says solid colour, so confirm the version, colour and size with the seller before ordering, especially in apricot or black.
