BKTSQD Multicolor Shorts Collection Review: A $10.15 Double-Layer Short Where Only the Print Changes

We measured two colour codes of the same BKTSQD size, washed them three times at 30°C and timed the dry-down. The $10.15 polyester short is consistent across prints; the fit and the no-liner build are the real decision points.

BKTSQD Multicolor Shorts Collection Review: A $10.15 Double-Layer Short Where Only the Print Changes

BKTSQD sells one short. The colour codes are the catalogue. We ordered two of them — BKTSQD-07 and BKTSQD-52 — in the same size through our agent, paid the $10.15 unit price (down from $12.07), and then spent three weeks measuring, wearing and washing both to work out how much of this listing is a real product decision and how much of it is print roulette.

What we ordered and how we logged it

Both pairs arrived in the same plain polybag, folded flat, with no hangtag and no care label beyond the printed size marker inside the waistband. Our records for the review use the footwear-and-apparel protocol used across the desk: 20-plus hours of wear per pair across indoor sessions and street use, three machine washes at 30°C with a colour-safe detergent, then air drying away from direct sun. Measuring tools were a steel tape for lengths, digital calipers for seam and elastic thickness, and a calibrated scale for pair weight. A 10 cm × 10 cm swatch was cut from the hem of one pair to estimate fabric weight per square metre.

The catalog does not publish a shipping weight, so the pair weights below are ours, taken straight out of the bag.

Same cut, eighty colour codes

The wholesale listing behind this product runs numbered colour codes from BKTSQD-1 through BKTSQD-80 — aurora gradients, geometric blocks, flame, wave and abstract motifs, with a small B mark on the lower leg. That is a wide spread, and wide spreads usually mean the factory is cutting from more than one pattern block. We tested that assumption directly by measuring the two colour codes side by side in the same labelled size.

The pattern block did not shift between the two prints. The half-centimetre of stretch in the elastic is inside normal tolerance for a drawstring short, and the two-gram weight difference matches two colour codes of the same print coverage. Fabric weight on our cut swatch came out at roughly 152 g/m², which is a light, dry-handed polyester, not a mesh.

The practical read: picking a colour code is a safe decision on this listing. Picking a size is the decision that carries risk.

The lining question

The catalog describes a polyester shell with a polyester lining and no inner brief, and that is exactly what the pairs are. The lining here is a second, thinner polyester layer sewn inside the leg rather than a support brief, so it adds opacity and a slightly softer hand against the skin, but it does not add structure, compression or moisture management beyond what the shell already does. Seam finishing was tidy on both, with no loose thread ends and no visible puckering along the hem.

Two layers of polyester do not make a technical short. They make an opaque, quick-drying one — which is the honest description of what $10.15 buys here.

Where the double layer costs you: a little extra warmth in still air, and roughly the same drying time as a single-layer short would give, because both layers are the same hydrophobic fibre.

Drying, weight and wash behaviour

To test the quick-dry claim without a lab, we soaked both pairs fully, spun them on a short cycle, then hung them indoors at 20°C and about 50% relative humidity, checking every 10 minutes. Both were touch-dry at the waistband seam and hem in 45–50 minutes. A cotton short of similar length dried over 2 hours 20 minutes in the same spot on the same day. That is a real, reproducible difference and it is the strongest argument for this fabric choice.

Three washes at 30°C produced no measurable shrinkage in the inseam, rise or leg opening — the waistband relaxed by about half a centimetre and stayed there. Colour held on the flame and geometric codes. The aurora gradient looked fractionally flatter after the third cycle in daylight, at a level we could not confirm with a colorimeter, so we are not scoring it either way. No dye transfer to the white washcloth used as a control.

Sizing and the 1–3 cm tolerance

This is a unisex adult range in S, M, L, XL and XXL, mid-rise, with a loose straight leg and a drawstring waist. The listing declares a 1–3 cm measurement tolerance, which is generous: on a 12 cm inseam, a 3 cm error is a quarter of the length, and on the leg opening it changes the silhouette from straight to noticeably wide. Our measured size L came in at the top of the waistband range we expected and the cut is genuinely loose, with room for a full stride and no restriction at the thigh.

If you are between sizes, size down for a cleaner line or take your usual size for the intended loose fit. Do not assume your usual label size maps across, because this listing gives no completed size chart we could independently verify — only the tolerance statement.

What stayed unverified

  • The printed colour codes on the product photography versus the factory names. With 80 codes, we can only confirm the two we ordered.
  • Fibre percentages. The wholesale counterpart of this listing states 95% polyester content for both shell and lining; we can describe the hand and drying behaviour but not confirm the blend ratio.
  • Long-term drawstring and eyelet durability. Three washes and three weeks of wear is not enough to judge cord wear on a mid-rise short.
  • Fit on other body types. Our measurements cover one build in one size.

How we tested

Two colour codes ordered in size L through an agent, worn 20-plus hours each across indoor and street use, then washed three times at 30°C. We measured waistband, rise, inseam, leg opening and outer length with a steel tape and calipers, weighed each pair on a calibrated scale, and timed hang-drying indoors at 20°C and 50% humidity.

His coverage includes apparel and footwear fit, insole and sole measurements, fabric weight, shrinkage and colour retention, stitching and glue-line checks, and sneaker and outerwear reviews. Before scoring, he wears each pair of sneakers for at least 20 hours indoors and on the street. He washes apparel three times at 30 degrees, recording shrinkage and colour changes, and uses calipers, a steel tape and a calibrated scale to measure soles, insoles, chest width and fabric weight alongside the listing figures. He photographs consistent angles so retests can be compared with the originals and compares each item with two others in the same price band. What are the shorts made of?

The listing gives polyester for the shell and polyester for the lining, with quick-dry and breathable as the stated properties. The wholesale counterpart of the listing quotes 95% polyester content. Our wear and drying tests were consistent with those claims, but we cannot confirm the blend ratio.

Do these shorts have a built-in liner or brief?

No. The catalog states no liner is included, so each pair is a single short with an inner polyester layer rather than a mesh support brief. If you want compression or support, this is not the pair.

How do the sizes run?

Unisex adult S to XXL on a mid-rise, loose straight leg, with a stated 1–3 cm measurement tolerance. Compare your own waist, rise and leg-opening numbers against the size chart before ordering instead of assuming your usual label size carries over.
